Everett was born unexpectedly at 25 weeks gestation...that's 15 weeks premature. He arrived weighing 1 pound 13 ounces and was 12.5 inches long.
During his almost six month hospitalization, he triumphed over many complications including H1N1 Swine Flu, two major bowel surgeries, liver failure, several infections and Retinopathy of Prematurity.
After 157 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at our local hospital and Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Everett arrived home on March 16, 2010. At home, he continues to thrive on the love and support of our family and community. Now at nine years old, he weighs a hefty 56 pounds and is 50 inches tall.
This blog features a collection of emails sent to friends and family during those long six months of hospitalization and also features current updates on Everett's progress at home. Please enjoy and have hope. Miracles Happen!!!
Zac's Story...
Five years to the day since Everett came home, Zac was diagnosed with a 10cm ependymoma, a benign spinal tumor. He is being treated at UCLA, as this is a very rare type of tumor. Surgery has been done and radiation will be necessary.
For the second time in our lives we find ourselves at a teaching hospital, far away from home, navigating uncertain waters. So much of this experience echoes what we went through with Everett. But we keep the faith, knowing that there is always a larger benefit than the moment we are in. And we know that miracles happen!
